Lincoln High Street will be closed to traffic between St Mary’s Street and Tentercroft Street from Monday, August 15, as work is carried out to pedestrianise the area.

The work is part of the East West Link Road scheme and is designed to connect this section of the High Street with the existing shopping area north of the level crossing.

Dave Brodrick, principal engineer, said: “Although there will be some short-term disruption, this will ultimately create a much more open and pleasant space.

“Hopefully, this will encourage more people to visit the shops in this part of the High Street, giving the area a new lease of life.”

With this end of High Street closed, traffic heading south will be directed via St Mary’s Street, over Pelham Bridge and down the new East West Link Road.

Traffic heading north will be directed via St Mark’s Street, over University Bridge, along Newland and onto Wigford Way.

From Monday, Brayford Wharf East will also become one-way and be permanently closed to southbound traffic.

As part of the works to Brayford Wharf East, there will also be a temporary ban on right turns into the road from St Mark’s Street.
