One hundred new nurses have begun their careers working in hospitals across Lincolnshire today.

The newly qualified nurses, who have graduated with nursing degrees from the University of Lincoln, will significantly boost nursing numbers at Lincoln County Hospital, Pilgrim Hospital in Boston and Grantham and District Hospital.

In total, 68 of the new recruits will be starting work at Lincoln hospital, with a further 22 heading to Pilgrim Hospital in Boston and 10 going to work at Grantham.

The new nurses will receive an induction before starting in their new roles in wards and departments across the county.

Michelle Rhodes, Director of Nursing for United Lincolnshire Hospitals NHS Trust, said: “We hope that they enjoy working in our wards and departments as they settle in to life in a busy hospital.

“This is also great news for our patients, as these new nurses will be increasing nurse staffing numbers in key areas.”

The latest nursing graduates will collect their degrees this week in graduation ceremonies at Lincoln Cathedral.

Nigel Horner, Head of the University’s School of Health and Social Care, said: “In addition to those joining the hospitals trust, others are starting work in community health, in public health, in the mental health trust, in nursing and care homes.

“We are all committed to improving health and care outcomes across Lincolnshire and every one of our students will play their part in achieving this goal”.
