An 18-year-old man has been arrested on suspicion of rape in connection with a serious sexual assault in Lincoln city centre.

As previously reported, the victim of the assault is understood to have left a nightclub on Silver Street at around 2am on Wednesday, September 21, walking in the direction of Pelham Bridge when she was attacked.

Detectives investigating the incident arrested a local man in the afternoon.

He has now been bailed until a date in November.

Anyone who was in the Pelham Bridge area, particularly underneath the play park or near to the Siemens car park between 2am and 4.20am should get in touch with police.

Detective Sergeant Tim Wilkinson, from Operation Emerald, said: “I am still appealing for anyone who saw the victim walking along Silver Street from Circles nightclub to Pelham Bridge to contact the investigation team.”

Inspector Suzanne Davies, the Community Policing Inspector for the city centre, said: “This is a very unusual incident in Lincoln.

“Lincoln is a safe place to visit and go out in the evening, I would remind people to stay with their friends, plan your journeys and travel with people you know where possible.”
