A 23-year-old Newark man has pleaded not guilty to the murder of teenage Lincoln schoolgirl Hannah Pearson.

James Morton of Pierson Street, Newark, denied the murder of 16-year-old Hannah when he appeared before Nottingham Crown Court on September 2.

As reported previously, Hannah, who was from Marston and went to school in Lincoln, died in hospital after an incident in Newark on July 24.

Morton, of Pierson Street, Newark, was arrested at his home in Newark in the early hours of Sunday, July 24 and charged with her murder shortly after.

He appeared in court via video link and spoke only to confirm his name and his not guilty plea.

Morton was remanded in custody and is due to stand trial next January.

Hannah’s family previously paid tribute to her, describing her as a “beautiful daughter, granddaughter, sister, aunty, niece and friend.”
