The butchers and game shop specialised in selling locally sourced meat from award-winning farms and also sold pies, cakes, pastries and condiments.

Owner Kenny Roberts had been at the helm of the business for over 25 years after taking over from former proprietors.

The businessman had previously played a part in campaigns to protect the geographical status of the Lincolnshire sausage, and had seen his popular shop take pride of place on the city’s first Monopoly board.

A few weeks before the closure announcement, Kenny told The Lincolnite he was ‘fed up’, stating works to repair sections of Bailgate were “like the last nail in the coffin”.

He said previously: “There’s nowhere for workers to park and there’s nowhere for customers to park. I think they should pedestrianise the area. The foundations are down.”

Kenny did not wish to comment about the closure of the business when contacted by The Lincolnite.
