Hawthorn Road in Reepham could be home to the most immaculate street sign in the county thanks to a man labelled by some as the “road sign hero”.

In a strangely satisfying video posted on social media by sister Char’lousi Michelle White, the sign in the village near Lincoln is gradually cleaned of greenish grime.

She said: “My brother gets fed up driving past dirty road signs. None of us expected him to do this! He stopped the car and got out.”

Armed with cleaning utensils, spray and a pink nail brush, and fondly teased by his sister, the unnamed driver had the sign sparkling in less than three minutes.

He said he felt like giving back and added: “Have you ever looked at a road sign and though ‘that really does need cleaning,” to which his sister replied “have you ever been to the doctor about this?”

The amusing video posted on the ‘You’re Probably from Lincoln If…’ Facebook group has been ‘liked’ by almost 620 people, with many giving him a pat on the back for his efforts.

While some suggested he “sends the council the bill,” others were so impressed by his community spirit they proposed that residents should group together for a road sign cleaning day.

The Lincolnite contacted by Lincolnshire County Council and West Lindsey District Council to find out who was responsible for road sign cleaning in the area.

While the county council said the service was the responsibility of district councils, WLDC was unavailable for a comment.
