A brave Lincoln teacher will swim the English Channel to raise funds for the British Heart Foundation (BHF) and Breast Cancer Care, inspired by his wife and father.

Nick Honey, 50, a teacher at Sir Robert Pattinson Academy in North Hykeham, will be swimming solo the 22-mile crossing in the first week of August 2017.

He is hoping to raise £2,000 to help raise funds for research into heart disease and breast cancer and can be sponsored through his Just Giving page.

He decided to take on the challenge for two charities close to his heart.

To comply with the requirements of cross channel swimming, Nick will be swimming the 22 miles in only a pair of swimming trunks, hat and goggles.

Once started, Nick will not be allowed to touch the support boat or another person until climbing out of the water on the French coast, hopefully within 15 hours.

All food and drink has to be consumed whilst treading water.

Nick said:

“I decided to undertake this challenge following my wife’s brush with breast cancer in 2016 and for my father who died suddenly of a heart attack in 1993.

“Thankfully my wife has made a full recovery but this experience has led me to reflect on life differently.”
