A North Hykeham GP surgery will almost treble in size now work has started on its new £2.2 million home.

Richmond Medical Practice will make the short but significant move to a new building near the junction of Moor Lane and Newark Road – less than 200 yards from its current site.

The £2.2 million project will see the practice, which cares for 9,500 patients, benefit from a midwifery room, a larger waiting room, purpose-built consultant areas and improved access for the disabled.

The centre will be owned by NHS Property Services – with the company fully funding the build.

The work is being carried out by construction company Lindum Group and it is hoped patients will be able to access the new facility from September 2017.

It is hoped the development, on the adjacent site to Moor Lane’s health centre, will support the practice in the delivery of the NHS Five Year Forward View.

Dianne Taylor, practice manager at Richmond Medical Practice, said: “The staff and I are excited – especially for the patients.

“Our current building was originally designed for 3,500 patients so we are at bursting point.”

Paul Jones, principal construction manager at NHS Property Services, said: “This major new development will provide a fantastic modern, purpose-built facility for patients and staff, housing a variety of primary care services over two floors.

“We are also providing the potential for future development of the building as the foundations and structure of the building will be designed so that it can be expanded at a future date, if required.”
