Mary Quigley from Lincoln was guest of honour at a celebration held by Boots to mark her over half a century career with the brand.

The event was held at the historic Boot family home in Nottingham and kickstarted the new Boots 50 Year Club, which is exclusively for Boots’ longest serving colleagues, of which Mary is a founding member.

Mary joined Boots on January 1, 1962 at the age of 15 and retired on Saturday, June 24, 2017.

Mary is one of the founding members of the recently established 50 Year Club.

She remembers what it was like when she first started working for Boots – she said: “My first role in Boots was on a department called the ‘fancy department’ where we sold flasks, pottery, jewellery and luggage.

“I started at work when I was 15, and we used to have a half day afternoon off on a Wednesday, and that’s when we all used to go out on social trips,” she continued.

19 other colleagues are being honoured from around the country and, along with Mary, was joined by Senior Vice-President and Managing Director of Boots, Elizabeth Fagan, who presented them with a personalised history of Boots and a special gift to go to London, have afternoon tea and go to see a show.

Elizabeth Fagan said: “Celebrating 50 years of employment is an amazing achievement, and especially remaining loyal to one company throughout.”

This event will be held annually, to celebrate any colleague who has reached their 50th anniversary at Boots and welcome them to the 50 Year Club.
