First guests arrive at Lincoln Cathedral Heritage Skills Festival

A festival is taking place at Lincoln Cathedral today and tomorrow to celebrate skills that have been passed down through the generations, from plastering to calligraphy. A festival is taking place at Lincoln Cathedral today and tomorrow to celebrate skills that have been passed down through the generations, from plastering to calligraphy.

The event was launched on Friday, June 23 and will also take place on June 24 from 10am to 4pm with a number exhibitions from The City of London Livery Companies throughout the two-day event.

It is hoped the Heritage Skills Festival will give visitors a unique opportunity to see at first hand the skills and knowledge that are kept alive for future generations through the City of London Livery Companies.

Skills on display include:

  • Plastering
  • Masonry
  • Embroidery
  • Calligraphy, and more.

The event will take place in the Nave, Transepts, and on the East Green and Tennyson Green.

On the Saturday afternoon, there will also be an outdoor auction of work produced during the event by the City of London Livery Companies including stone carvings, lead planters, and more.

  • Mystery Plays
  • Evensong in St Hugh’s Choir
  • Organ recital by the Lord Mayor of London
  • Mini Medieval Food Market at Minster Yard
