Armed police set to man Scampton Airshow

Armed officers will ‘provide public reassurance’

Lincolnshire Police have confirmed that armed police will be supporting security arrangements at this year’s Scampton Airshow.

The show, which will take place at RAF Scampton on September 9-10, will now have a number of armed officers ‘to provide public reassurance’.

Assistant Chief Constable Shaun West said: “We have been working with Scampton Airshow Limited for many months to ensure that the event is as safe and secure as possible, so visitors can attend and have a fantastic day in confidence.

“Although the organisers will take primacy for the event, we will have police officers at the show and in surrounding areas to support RAF personnel and security marshals.

“If you have been to an event of this size in the county before then it is quite likely that you have seen some of our officers carrying firearms, and this one will be no different.

“We hope that people will find this reassuring but if you are not used to seeing an officer carrying a firearm, please take the opportunity to say hello to them. They are vital in keeping us all safe but will be only too happy to speak with you.

“Officers will also be more than willing to have their photo taken with you – please tweet any to us using #Scampton17.

“If you do have any concerns or spot anything out of the ordinary at the show please let our officers of show staff know as soon as possible.”
