Forecasters at the Met Office have predicted gusts of up to 75mph in Lincoln overnight as Storm Aileen heads for the county.

An amber weather warning for wind has been issued for between 12.05am on Wednesday, September 13 and 6am on Wednesday, September 13.

Chief forecasters at the Met Office said: “Storm Aileen will bring a brief spell of very strong westerly winds with gusts of 65-75 mph during the early hours of Wednesday.

“Longer journey times by road, rail and air are looking likely, with restrictions on roads and bridges.

“Damage to trees and perhaps buildings, as well as power cuts are expected.

“Flying debris and large coastal waves are possible, and these could lead to injuries.”

The Met Office dismissed links between the first named storm of the season in the UK to hurricanes across the Atlantic.
