Here be dragons: Popular boat race returns to Lincoln Brayford

How to race your dragon

The Lincoln Dragon Boat Race is back for the third year this summer on the Brayford Waterfront.

The event will take place on Saturday, July 21, when racers will compete to raise money for charity and for the chance to become the 2018 Dragon Boat Champion.

Last year, 16 teams battled it out to earn the prestigious title. In the end, the Lincolnshire County Council Highways Alliance team ‘Highway Five-O’ were crowned victors.

But the real winners were St Barnabas Hospice and the Lincolnshire & Nottinghamshire Air Ambulance, for whom the event raised £6,000.

This year, the event will also be raising money for volunteer emergency responders LIVES.

The event is based on an ancient Chinese tradition and is one of the fastest growing water activities in Britain. Photo: Steve Smailes for The Lincolnite

Organiser of the event Alex Bennett, Ringrose Law marketing manager, said: “The Lincoln Dragon Boat Race promises to be a great day out for local teams competing, families and friends. So whether you are a willing spectator ready to cheer everyone on or a champion oarsman in the making – you need to be there.

“As well as being fun, the event will also raise vital funds to three very important and local charities.”
