Lincoln assault turns out to be ‘unfortunate accident’

Three men previously arrested now released.

Lincolnshire Police have released three men who were previously arrested for the alleged assault of a 60-year-old man on Lincoln High Street, after CCTV revealed it was an ‘unfortunate accident’.

Police have investigated what was believed to be an assault on Lincoln High Street in the early hours of Thursday, February 1.

As previously reported, a 60-year-old man was taken to Lincoln County Hospital at around 2.30am with a serious head injury.

Police cordoned off an area surrounding the Lincoln Unitarian Chapel and neighbouring businesses on Lincoln High Street, at the junction with Monson Street.

Three local men were arrested on suspicion on GBH in connection with the incident and released under investigation.

A spokesperson for Lincolnshire Police said: “After reviewing CCTV, officers are satisfied that the man’s injuries were not the result of an assault but an unfortunate accident in which the man fell.

“No further action will be taken against the three men.”
