The brand new Lincoln East West Link Road is set to open to motorists from as early as next week.

Lincolnshire County Council confirmed that the £22million road should be open to traffic for the first time on Monday, August 15.

The road provides a direct link from the High Street at its junction with Tentercroft Street to Pelham Bridge and Canwick Road, meaning traffic can bypass the city centre level crossings.

Temporary traffic lights will remain in place until the official opening in November, to allow final works to be completed.

These will be removed by the official opening, but in the meantime motorists are advised to use alternative routes where possible.

The team will also be carrying out landscaping works and tree-planting over the coming weeks, with everything due to completed for an official opening in November.

Councillor Richard Davies, Executive Member for Highways and Transportation, said: “This project, alongside the upcoming eastern bypass, will significantly ease the pressures we see on the road network in and around Lincoln every day.

“The finished road will provide an easier route across the city, avoiding the High Street railway line.

“It’s also expected to cut traffic congestion, improve air quality and reduce journey times.

“In addition, it should bring about the regeneration of the former coal yard on Tentercroft Street, resulting in significant economic benefits for the city.”
