Police are searching for the owners of a cat that was thrown into Sincil Drain in Lincoln in the early hours of Friday.

At around 1am on August 15, police officers were sent to a report of someone throwing a cat into Sincil Drain near the Hermit Street bridge in Lincoln.

They saved from the water a black and white female cat wearing a blue collar. The cat was very cold, but otherwise unharmed.

A 34-year-old local man was arrested nearby on suspicion of causing unnecessary suffering to an animal. He was released without charge, police said.

The rescued cat is looked after by the Lincoln Cat Care charity.

Police and the charity want to reunite the cat with its owner and are asking for anyone with any information to contact them via the 101 non-emergency number quoting incident 16 of August 15. Alternatively, call Lincoln Cat Care on 01522 306195.

A local man has been charged with six thefts and burglaries in Lincoln and Sleaford.

Simon Finlay, 31, of no fixed address, appeared at Lincoln Magistrates Court on August 13, and was remanded in custody until a further court appearance on August 26.

He was charged with a series of burglaries and thefts in Lincoln, Nettleham, Cherry Willingham and Sleaford in July.

The charges are:

  • Aggravated vehicle taking on July 28 from a property on Kingsway in Nettleham
  • Burglary and theft on July 31 at a property on Kingsway in Nettleham
  • Burglary and theft on July 28 at a property on Dalderby Crescent in Lincoln
  • Attempted burglary on July 31 at the The Wishing Well pub in Cherry Willingham
  • Burglary and theft on July 31 at the Golden Cherry Chinese in Cherry Willingham
  • Handle Stolen Goods between July 28 and April 9 at Furlong Way, Sleaford
