Get ready for a fun weekend

A dragon boat race and car rally will be among the event highlights this weekend in Lincoln as several schools break up for the summer holidays.

Lincoln Dragon Boat Challenge

The fourth annual Lincoln Dragon Boat Challenge organised by local solicitors Ringrose Law will return to the Brayford Waterfront at 12pm on Saturday, July 20 with 16 teams taking part.

Several hundred spectators are expected to watch as crews face the thirty foot brightly painted Chinese boats over a 200 metre course along the Brayford.

There will also be stalls and activities for families to get involved in, including a mobile climbing wall, at the event raising money for the Lincolnshire & Nottinghamshire Air Ambulance and Nomad, which is part of YMCA Lincolnshire.

Belton Construction won the 2018 race which raised over £6,000 for three charities – LIVES, St Barnabas Hospice and the Lincolnshire & Nottinghamshire Air Ambulance.

The Lincolnshire Vintage Vehicle Society will host their annual rally in the grounds of Lincoln Castle from 10am-5pm on Sunday, July 21.

The event was originally due to take place on June 16, but was postponed as the grounds were “badly waterlogged”, so a new date was set.

Up to 200 vehicles from cars, motorcycles and small commercial vehicles, will be displayed in the grounds of the castle for this free event.

Dogs are welcome to visit this event as it is also a Dog-Friendly Day at the castle.

The castle is holding a dog friendly weekend from 10am-5pm on Saturday and Sunday, July 20-21.

Your dog can follow you on a journey back through history exploring the Medieval Wall Walk, Victorian Prison and the Magna Carta, but they must be kept on the lead at all times.

Dogs are allowed to enter the cinema space and the David PJ Ross Magna Cart building, but cannot be taken in the Vault.

The castle is also hosting a ‘Castle Characters’ event over the weekend with costumed characters in the Victorian Prison telling tales of prison life, discipline, crime and punishment. Click here for more information.
