Mistaken Presence’s 12-month occupation of Lincoln’s Greyfriars building comes to an end with “A’ Denouement”, the final exhibition and closing event.
Drawing upon the activities that have taken place throughout the project, A’ Denouement takes the form of an active archive displayed throughout the building, which includes archive material accumulated during the project, alongside film, performances and texts created by the project’s participating artists. Together, the archives point to fragments of the building’s history, whilst reflecting on its current occupation as a contemporary art space.
A ’Denouement will adapt and change throughout the day as a number of performances bring the project to a close. Artist Marcia Farquhar leads a sermon-esque performance in a re-adaption of Mind Your Heads, which launched the commissions 12-months earlier, whilst artist Emma Smith will perform a new song composed for the building, with Lincoln choristers.
Written by Smith with the support of local musicians, linguists and the Lincoln Choral Society, A Greaât Stitheram is inspired by the history of voice at Greyfriars and its associated history to local Lincolnshire song.
