Moonlight walkers raise £40k for St Barnabas

Powerful in pink

Hundreds of people took to the streets of Lincoln city on Saturday night, June 12, to raise money for St Barnabus Hospice.

The Hospice Moonlight Walk sees walkers dress in pink and attempt a 10km walk around the city to raise money for the charity, often in memory of loved ones.

More than £40,000 was raised in this weekend’s event which began at 10pm inside Bishop Grosseteste University.

Rose Gray, Learning and Development Facillitator at St Barnabas Hospice, walked in memory of her dad, who died three years ago with Parkinson’s, dementia, diabetes, chronic obstructive pulmonary disease and bowel cancer.

Rose said: “Dad would have been very proud of me taking part in the Moonlight Walk I took park to raise awareness to others about the services that St Barnabas has to offer to both patients and their families.

“When Dad was ill, we were unaware of St Barnabas’s services. If we had known what St Barnabas could have done to ease the journey along, this would have given us all the opportunity to make more informed choice.”

Laura Stone, Event Fundraiser for St Barnabas Lincolnshire Hospice, said: “We are very proud of everyone who took part in this year’s Moonlight Walk in Lincoln, and are delighted to be hosting a second Moonlight Walk in Stamford on Saturday 15th September.

“The evening was as successful as ever, and it was special to join hundreds of inspirational people walking shoulder-to-shoulder in support of hospice care.

“The money raised will go a long way towards helping our Hospice to provide end-of-life care across Lincoln, into the future.”

Tickets for the Moonlight Walk in Stamford are available here. Adults are £15 each and children (aged 11+ only) are £10 each.
