Big county, big challenge – Making sure that Lincolnshire’s 700,000 residents are kept informed about our services is not an easy task. This is one of the challenges for Lincolnshire County Council’s communications team, who also keep five thousand members of staff up to date with key council information.
You would lead and deliver on key strategic communications programmes for highways, supporting the council’s external, internal and media communications.
Working flexibly to a high level within the council, you will support the promotion of major infrastructure projects over the next two years, helping deliver strategic objectives and service plans, while protecting and enhancing the council’s reputation.
With support from the Strategic Communications Leads, you will offer advice and guidance to executive councillors and key officers on tactical external and internal communications and the media, you would also supervise the work and development of internal communications officers.
You’ll have to react quickly to tight and changing deadlines and priorities. Diplomacy, tact and negotiating skills, when dealing with key council contacts, is a must.
On a practical level, the successful person must have:
- significant practical experience of communications activities and planning
- a high level of creativity to develop innovative communications and events
- an understanding of communications in local government
- excellent writing skills with particular attention to detail
- diplomacy, tact and political judgement
- a professional qualification – e.g. NCTJ or CIPR
