Lincs Laboratory is a specialist in-house service of the Highways and Transportation Department of Lincolnshire County Council. The laboratory is based at Riseholme on the northern edge of Lincoln and has a varied workload which includes construction materials testing, pavement and geotechnical investigations, highway condition surveys and traffic data capture and analysis.
The Laboratory is UKAS accredited to ISO17025 and we are committed to providing an efficient, competitive and high quality service to the County Council and our other clients which include public and private sector consulting engineers, suppliers and contractors. We have a buoyant workload with a number of major schemes planned including the forthcoming Lincoln Eastern Bypass.
We are seeking to recruit a Trainee Operations Technician to work in our Laboratory and Site Testing team.
Your primary role will be to support the delivery of pavement, geotechnical and materials engineering services to the Laboratory’s clients. You will be conducting laboratory and on-site tests on a range of construction materials to ensure compliance with specifications and workmanship requirements.
You will need to be able to follow instructions and procedures in order to undertake testing activities to British and European Standards and specifications.
You will need to be enthusiastic, be capable of working under your own initiative and be able to demonstrate good communication and team working skills. You will also need to be practical, adaptable and dexterous with good literacy, numeracy and administration skills. You will be required to undertake some manual handling of materials with weights up to 25kg.
We require you to have a minimum of 5 GCSE’s grade A-C (including maths and science). Full training will be given and you will have the opportunity to obtain a nationally recognised qualification.

(with potential to progress to Operations Technician G4 £17,169 – £19,238)
This position would suit an individual with a keen interest in science or engineering. Working in the laboratory is a good introduction to a career in the Highway industry. Upon successful completion of our structured training and development programme there is scope to progress to the post of Operations Technician – Grade G4 (£17,169 – £19,238)
