New consultant for maternity ward

Maternal care: A new consultant will be on hand to deal with pre-natal issues at Lincoln County Hospital.

Pregnant women receiving care in Lincoln will now get extra expertise with the appointment of a new consultant.

Consultant Obstetrician and Gynaecologist Vandana Agarwal has joined Lincoln County Hospital.

Her specialties are in fetal scanning and prenatal diagnosis of abnormalities.

Agarwal said: “I joined Lincoln County Hospital to provide strong professional leadership for the labour ward, so that we can maintain and develop the high standard of maternity care provided.

“I aim to achieve this with the support of the exceptional consultant team and maternity staff here.”

Agarwal trained in India before moving to the UK for a postgraduate in obstetrics and gynaecology at West Midlands Deanery.

While training, she rotated around hospitals in Staffordshire, Shrewsbury and Wolverhampton and in 2003 received accreditation from the Royal College of Obstetricians and Gynaecologists.

She worked as a substantive consultant at the University Hospital of North Staffordshire before joining Lincoln County Hospital.

She will also be running some clinics in Gainsborough’s maternity department.
