Showroom hosts suicide awareness event

Help: The NHS and The Showroom will be holding an awareness day to help those affected by suicide in the county.

A conference facility in Lincoln will be hosting Lincolnshire’s first suicide awareness event, as part of National Suicide Week.

The Showroom Lincoln on Tritton Road will be helping Lincolnshire Partnership Foundation Trust host Choosing Life on September 7, and the event is free to the public.

Choosing Life will provide people with information, practical support and guidance for those who have been affected in any way by suicide.

There will also be suicide awareness trainers showing people the ASIST and safeTALK training programmes.

Trust chaplain Ken Wilson said: “Bereavement by suicide can be particularly painful to cope with.

“We consulted widely through the ASIST and safeTALK suicide prevention training courses we provide and received clear feedback that people bereaved by suicide appreciate some help and support.”

In Lincolnshire alone, 60 people die from suicide every year — higher than the national average.

While recently it showed signs of decreasing, the Trust believes the numbers are starting to rise again.

The event will be held from 10am to 4pm.
