Bishop Grosseteste University College Lincoln will celebrate its 150th anniversary on January 20, after first opening its doors in January 1862.
A range of celebrations are taking place throughout this academic year, including a day-long party on Friday for students and staff.
The party precedes a more formal service of celebration for past and present governors, staff, students and friends at Lincoln Cathedral on February 16.
The college is also building a map showing all the schools across the world where BG-trained teachers have worked.
Bishop Grosseteste Principal, Professor Muriel Robinson, said: “Our 150th anniversary celebrations are now in full swing.
“We are of course particularly honoured by the city’s recognition of our contribution through today’s civic dinner, and looking forward to the cathedral service in February.
“Although our 150 years of tradition are very important to us, we are always looking to the future: last month we opened BG Futures, a new facility supporting enterprising start-up businesses, and we currently are investing £2.5 million in a new library extension.”
