Police seek info on stolen car plate rise

Plate theft: Car registration plates are being stolen in the city, and police are looking to find out more.

Lincolnshire Police are looking for information after a sudden spike in the theft of car registration plates in Lincoln in the last fortnight.

Four plates are missing from a Ford Fiesta, a Ford Focus, a Mazda Antares and a Ford KA, all in Hawthorn Chase.

However, it seems the stolen plates are not being sold on etc elsewhere.

Inspector Pat Coates said: “These plates don’t appear to be being used to commit further crime so it is possible that someone is stealing them to collect.

“We are warning offenders that we will prosecute if we find out who is doing this. It is a huge annoyance to car owners and it also costs a fair amount to sort it out.

“We want anyone with any information on these crimes to come forward and help us with our enquiries.”

Anyone with information should call Lincolnshire Police on 101 or charity Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555 111.
