Sleep Easy: 65 staff, volunteers and fundraisers are warming up after giving up their Saturday night to sleep outside Lincoln Cathedral to raise funds for homelessness.

More than 65 staff, volunteers and fundraisers are warming up after giving up their Saturday night to sleep outside Lincoln Cathedral to raise funds for homelessness.

Lincolnshire YMCA’s annual Sleep Easy fundraiser has so far raised £2,700.

Local people from Lincoln College and Lincoln Castle Academy took part in the event, as well as staff from the organisation and other members of the community, including a team from Lincoln Baptist Church and Meddo.

There were 65 people registered and taking part, as well as 7 volunteers during the night.

Funds raised from sponsorship will be used to offer essential items such as bed linen, crockery and cooking utensils for people ready to leave high intensity supported accommodation with Lincolnshire YMCA and live independently within the community.

Carly Storr, Housing Support Worker at Lincolnshire YMCA and this year’s event organiser, said: “We’ve been running the Sleep Easy since 2010 and this year the numbers of people taking part were the highest so far. Not only have we raised nearly £3,000, we’ve spread the word about homelessness too.”

The event was supported by Lincoln Cathedral, who allowed the use of their kitchen facilities and grounds for the night, Stokes of Lincoln, who supplied hot drinks throughout the night, and The Lincoln Hotel, who supplied car parking space and promoted the event to their customers.
