Hartsholme Park White Bridge construction to start over summer

The White Bridge at Hartsholme Country Park in Lincoln should be reconstructed by autumn, the City of Lincoln Council said.

Plans have been drawn up to replace the popular bridge, which was removed last summer due to safety concerns, and the project is now out to tender.

It is expected a contractor will be appointed by the end of July, so work on the new bridge can begin.

Following consultation with park visitors and members of Hartsholme Country Park Advisory Group, the new design will take in elements of the old bridge such as the iron structure.

The bridge was deemed unsafe and was officially closed to the public in July 2012, and then removed in September.

Alan Brookfield, Project Manager at the City of Lincoln Council, said: “We appreciate the bridge has been widely missed since its removal.

“But we are pleased to say that people should see works taking place over the coming months.

“The design for the new bridge is in keeping with the park and its heritage, so we hope people like it.”
