Reduced demand for the service during the winter meant it was temporarily suspended.

The pause on collections saves on fuel being used to collect relatively small amounts of garden waste and reduces carbon emissions.

This saves more than £150,000 for West Lindsey council tax payers.

Even though garden waste was not collected during the winter period the West Lindsey recycling rate still reached 54% for 2012/13 – one of the best rates in the country, the council said.

Garden waste collections remains a free service in West Lindsey, unlike in the areas served by the City of Lincoln Council (£25 per year) or North Kesteven District Council.

Garden waste collection is also available free of charge in Lincoln, North Kesteven and South Kesteven.
