Lincoln council offers help to stay warm this winter

Winter well being: The City of Lincoln Council are helping people get advice during the colder months with “winter warmer” events.

As the colder months draw in, the City of Lincoln Council are helping residents be winter aware, starting with a Winter Warmer event.

Cold and dark can isolate a number of people in communities, so the City of Lincoln Council’s Neighbourhood North Team is inviting people to the free event on November 7.

It will run from 11am until 2.30pm at St Giles Community Centre, on Swift Gardens.

Several agencies will offer free information and advice, and there will also be refreshments, a quiz and bingo with prizes.

The event will also help residents meet their neighbours and other members of the local community, with an emphasises on the importance of looking out for each other during the winter months.

Noel Tobin, Neighbourhood Manager for Lincoln North, said: “Winter can be a dangerous time and, according to Age UK, one person dies every seven minutes due to the cold.

“This is a very sobering thought and something we need to work harder to prevent. As part of our neighbourhood working programme we hold an event each year to highlight how residents, and the elderly in particular, can stay warm and keep healthy during the winter.”
