British Bake Off queen will share cooking tips at Lincoln Food and Gift Fair

Home-grown talent: Lincolnshire’s own British Bake Off winner will be passing on her skills to Lincoln crowds at a popular Christmas event.

After cooking up a storm in this year’s Great British Bake Off, and landing the baking crown, Lincolnshire’s own Nancy Birtwhistle will be passing on her skills to Lincoln crowds at a popular Christmas event.

The Lincolnshire Showground in Lincoln will host the 13th Lincolnshire’s Food and Gift Fair for two days on Saturday 29 to Sunday 30 November and runs from 10am to 4pm each day.

The annual event showcases some of the county’s finest foods, gifts and crafts from a large number of exhibitors and runs.

There will also be demonstrations from a number of Lincolnshire’s best chefs and cocktail makers including Nick and Charlie from The Strait and Narrow, Louise Jarvis from Uncle Henry’s Farm Shop and Pete Welbourne.

Special guest Nancy, from Barton-Upon-Humber, will be running a cookery demonstration at the event on Sunday, November 30.

Nancy will be cooking from an Aga – her oven of choice – throughout a 45 minute demonstration at 12noon.

The 60-year-old baker retired from her job as a GP practice manager seven years ago and her love of baking has developed ever since.

Nancy said that, as a Lincolnshire lass, she cannot wait to do what she loves best in front of a home crowd: “The past few months have been such an overwhelming yet surreal experience and I am so excited to be coming to the Showground to be a part of the Food and Gift Fair.

“Lincolnshire is well-known for its fantastic range and quality artisan food and the fair is bound to be the perfect start to the Christmas season and put everyone in festive spirits.

“I’ve always loved cooking in my kitchen and I’m thrilled I can share this with others. I look forward to surprising the crowds with my secret recipe!”

The fair is one of the biggest in the county, offering everything from Christmas dinner master-classes, wreath making, wine tasting and the best local produce.

More than 200 indoor stands will feature in this year’s fair including Boston Sausages, Cote Hill Cheese plus many more will add to the very best of Christmas offerings for visitors.

Jayne Southall, Chief Executive of Lincolnshire Show, said: “We are delighted to be hosting Nancy at the Showground. As a county we are very proud of her and her success at the Bake Off this year.

“The Food and Gift Fair is a great highlight on the show’s calendar of events and is the perfect start to the Christmas festivities. There will be lots of local suppliers showing off their best produce. I look forward to meeting Nancy and welcoming all attendees.”

Tickets are still available for the Lincolnshire Food and Gift Fair at Lincolnshire Showground.
