Fire damages scrap yard building in Waddington

Scrap yard fire: A large fire has severely damaged parts of a scrap yard on Grantham Road in Waddington near Lincoln.

Update 1pm April 16: The cause of the fire has been determined as overheating machinery in the wood workshop, which was left running during the night.

Lincolnshire Fire & Rescue said: “Six fire crews worked through the night to extinguish the fire, bringing it under control to stop the blaze spreading to nearby units.

“The premises has been severely damaged by fire and the roof has completely gone.”


A large fire has severely damaged parts of a scrap yard on Grantham Road in Waddington near Lincoln.

Firefighters were called to the incident at Brown’s Auto Breakers at around 10.53pm on Wednesay, April 15, with five appliances attending.

They tackled the large building fire at the industrial yard between Stone Lane and Bar Lane overnight, and one team still remains on the scene for damping down purposes.

The A607 Grantham Road was closed while police diverted traffic.

While the firefighters worked to extinguish the fire, local residents nearby were told to close their windows due to possibly toxic smoke.

The premises was unoccupied at the time and there were no injuries reported. Fire investigators are looking into the cause of the fire.
