Leading City of Lincoln councillors have agreed on changes to rent payments for tenants living in council housing.

At a meeting of the Executive on February 22, plans for a reduction of an average weekly rent for general purpose accommodation from £70.94 in 2015-16 to £70.23 per week for 2016-17 were approved.

The savings for tenants equates to 71p per week over the course of a year.

However, councillors approved a rise in rents for those living in supported accommodation, which includes domestic violence refuges, hostels, and accommodation for people with disabilities.

Tenants of these properties will be asked to pay an extra 70p per week, with the average weekly rent rising from £70.73 in 2015-16 to £71.43 in 2016-17.

Council garage rents will rise by 3%, bringing the charge to £7.35 for 2016-17, an increase of 21p per week.
