A Met Office yellow weather warning for thundery downpours and lightning is in place for parts of Lincolnshire on Thursday, June 23 and Friday, June 24.

The chief forecaster’s assessment warns that, although some areas will miss them, “potentially intense” thundery downpours are likely throughout this afternoon and evening.

Thursday’s warning is valid until 2am the following morning, with road users being told to expect some disruption to travel, localised flooding and frequent lightning.

The Met Office assessment states: “Where thunderstorms occur torrential rain and frequent lightning are expected. 30 mm or more of rain could fall in an hour and locally in excess of 50 mm is possible in two or three hours.”

The warning for Lincolnshire returns on Friday for the period between 10.30am and 2pm.
