The Memory Lane cafe, a special event created by care home staff to support people living with dementia and their families, is celebrating six months of success.

Cedar Falls in Little London Road created the 1940s themed cafe to give loved-ones a chance to spend time with residents in a safe atmosphere designed to stimulate memories.

The response from residents and families attending the specially-created cafe has been positive and the home in Spalding is now inviting locals to attend.

The home’s dining room is transformed into a 1940s themed café, with staff dressed in traditional waitress outfits, serving homemade cakes, teas and coffees.

The special cafe is held on the fourth Wednesday of every month and the families of residents travel from across the UK to attend.

Following the success, the unique event could be extended to the company’s sister homes in Alford, Boston, Horncastle and Coningsby and their 320 residents.

The home, part of the Tanglewood Care Homes group, has 92 residents with around half suffering from some form of dementia – a condition which has symptoms including memory loss, difficulties with thinking, problem-solving or language.

The next Memory Café is on Wednesday, August 24 from 2pm until 4pm.
