Up to 2-3cm could fall in just one or two hours, with some places possibly seeing 4-6cm in three to six hours.

This could bring the potential for travel disruption during rush hour and into the evening.

The threat of heavy rain will clear eastwards later in the night, clearing western parts of the warning area by around midnight.

A second weather warning for rain has been issued for the Bank Holiday weekend from 3pm on Saturday, August 27 to 9am on Sunday, August 28.
