New pay and display machines for council car parks have been launched at sites in Grimsby and Cleethorpes.

Drivers in North East Lincolnshire are now able to pay for their parking using a debit or credit card in 27 of the 32 new parking machine locations.

The machines will also accept contactless payments as well as the more traditional payment method of coins, including the new £1 coin when it enters circulation in March 2017.

Work to replace the machines started in the summer and also saw some machines relocated to more suitable and safer locations.

The new machines are currently being rolled out, with the project expected to be completed by the end of October.

Once completed a total of 32 new machines will be fitted in 13 car parks across the borough by North East Lincolnshire Council and its partner ENGIE.

New machines have been fitted at the following locations, with further machines being activated daily:

  • Garden Street
  • Duchess Street
  • North Prom
  • Central Prom
  • High Street x 1
  • St. Peters Avenue
  • Yarra Road
  • Wardall Street
  • Cleethorpes Boating Lake
  • Thrunscoe Land
  • Cartergate
