Man arrested after handbag theft and police chase in Grantham

Police arrested a man in his 30s after a pensioner’s handbag was stolen in the car park of Sainsbury’s in Grantham.

The victim in her 60s was robbed by a man at around 9am at the supermarket on London Road. He then made off in a vehicle he had parked in a disabled bay.

Police officers followed the vehicle and then pursued the suspect on foot before finding him hiding behind a fence in a garden in Elton Street.

The woman was not injured in the incident. Officers are still trying to locate her handbag.

Lincolnshire Police said the man has been released on bail for this offence pending further inquiries.
