The A17 will be closed overnight for the next week as road repairs are carried out to the surface.

Works will start on Thursday, October 13, to the A17 northwest of its junction with the A1121.

A bridge joint will also be replaced on Swineshead Bridge, south of the level crossing.

The works are expected to take a week and be completed by Friday, October 21, weather permitting.

The road will be closed between 6pm and 7am Monday to Friday, with diversions in place.

It will be open to traffic between 7am and 6pm Monday to Friday and on Saturday and Sunday.

Andy Wharff, area highways manager, said: “The road has deteriorated to the point where resurfacing is required, which will extend the life of the road for many years.

“We’ll be making the most of the overnight closures; street lights will also be changed, as part of our streetlight transformation project, and we’ll be refreshing road markings and cleaning out gullies at the same time.

“Co-ordinating the works in this way will avoid the need for future closures, and minimise disruption for drivers.

“All reasonable measures will be taken to complete the scheme as quickly as possible, although this will depend on external factors such as the weather.

“Drivers are asked to read and follow the information on the temporary signs that will be in place during the works, and we apologise in advance for any inconvenience this work may cause.”
