Labour leader Jeremy Corbyn has told voters in Sleaford to embrace the politics of hope and unity, and reject nastiness and a blame culture ahead of next month’s by-election.

In a rallying call to around 150 of his loyal supporters on Sunday, November 20, the Leader of Opposition insisted that Labour could indeed win the Sleaford and North Hykeham by-election on December 8.

The by-election was called following the sudden and unexpected resignation of Conservative Stephen Phillips.

The Conservatives are defending a majority of almost 24,000 from the 2015 general election.

Corbyn, who was joined by the party’s candidate for the by-election Jim Clarke, delivered his rallying cry from a tree stump in the Boston Road Recreational Ground.

He said: “In this by-election, you’ve got the chance to have discussions on doorsteps, to win people over.

“The politics of hope, the politics of unity, the politics of creativity – that surely is something far better than the nastiness of a gulf between the rich and the poor and a blame culture in society against every minority.

“We are here for the unity of all people.”
