Lincoln residents cleaned up over 270kg of waste from the river in the Sincil Bank area.

Known as the River Heroes of Lincoln, the group of 13 volunteers removed 54 bags (270kg) of little from the Sincil Drain.

The groups collected huge quantities of litter and debris from the water, including a double mattress, traffic cones, and a rabbit cage.

The group collected a number of items including:

  • A double mattress
  • Traffic cones
  • A rabbit cage
  • A plastic toy house
  • A go kart
  • Two scooters
  • Three large car batteries
  • A large light fitting
  • Four car wheels
  • A sofa cushion
  • A hifi sytem
  • A hoover
  • Four fishing rods
  • Three bucket fulls of broken glass

In a Facebook post, a spokesperson for the group said: “Huge thank you to Sincil Bank Community Organisers members of RSPB Lincoln Local Group, local residents and to Tesco for kindly donating some well deserved lunch and treats to our wonderful volunteers.

“The ducks even came to have a look and show their appreciation afterwards and the moorhens were exploring their new litter free habitat too!

“Very satisfying work!”

The group will next meet on Saturday, March 4, 2017 for another river clean up at 10am (meet on Sausthorpe Street/Sincil Bank corner).
