Health bosses have confirmed that they hope to continue to provide a level of service in Wainfleet, although the future of the surgery in the village remains in doubt.

The surgery has been closed since November 10 after it had its registration suspended following a damning report from the Care Quality Commission.

Over 2,000 patients are currently registered at the surgery.

A meeting was held by Lincolnshire East CCG to discuss the future service provision for patients in the village on Thursday, January 5.

No final decision has been made on whether to reopen the surgery.

Tracy Pilcher, chief nurse at Lincolnshire East CCG said: “We have listened to local people and our preferred option is to provide a level of service in Wainfleet.

“We are exploring a number of possibilities but for legal and contractual reasons cannot expand on this at the moment.”

This news comes as four GP surgeries in Lincoln, Metheringham and Gainsborough prepare to close.

An estimated 6,000 people still need to register at a new surgery.
