A prisoner at HMP Lincoln has died in custody, it’s been confirmed.

Dominic Clayton, 36, from Lincoln, died on Monday, January 16 at Lincoln County Hospital.

Clayton, who had been sentenced several times for burglary, is understood to have been diabetic and reportedly fell into a coma five days before he died.

A prison service spokesperson confirmed that, as with all deaths in custody, an independent investigation would be undertaken by the Prisons and Probation Ombudsman.

An inquest into the death is expected to be held at a later date.
