The footage, published by the British Film Institute shows an array of images from as early as 1933, giving us a taste of what Scunthorpe was like back in the day.

1933

Prince George, who later became the Duke of Kent, visited the local steelworks, opened a trunk road, and visited the War Memorial Hospital to open a new nurses’ home.

Prince George was the fourth son of King George V. The hospital visited by the Prince is now known as Scunthorpe General Hospital.

1950

This recruitment film takes the form of a drama shot on location in Scunthorpe.

The film looks into the steel industry. It was made for the trade body the British Iron and Steel Federation, which commissioned some 50 films.

Filmed outside Scunthorpe Civic Centre, this film briefly looks into the Scunthorpe International Folk Festival.
