Plans have been submitted to West Lindsey District Council for the former Sun Inn in Gainsborough to be demolished for a new hotel and restaurant complex.

The proposals lodged by applicants Dransfield Properties Limited would see the the former hotel on North Street flattened, with the possibility of a 56-room Travelodge and Italian restaurant taking its place.

37 Market Street would also be demolished to make way for the hotel and restaurant.

The plans would also include alterations to, and the demolition of, the rear part of 27 and 29 Market Street, as well as alterations to 35 Market Street.

Previous plans in January 2015 suggested hotel giants Premier Inn would take over the site, however this fell through in May last year.

Councillors at West Lindsey District Council’s planning committee will discuss these plans at a later date.
