‘An absolute pleasure to work with’: Tribute to Lincolnshire County Council manager killed in A1 crash

The Lincolnshire County Council employee killed in a six-vehicle crash on the A1 at Newark has been described as the “ultimate professional” by one of his colleagues.

Ian Newell, 52, and from Grantham, tragically died in the crash at around 7.55am on March 9.

He was the business and public protection manager at the council at the time of his death and had worked at the county council since 1993.

Sara Barry, Head of Safer Communities at the county council, paid tribute to Ian’s commitment to the authority over the last few decades.

She said: “Ian was an absolute pleasure to work with and was a dedicated and long-serving member of our Trading Standards team at the council.

“He was energetic, hard-working and the ultimate professional.

“But more than that, he was a kind and caring man, an asset to the team and a joy to be around.

“He had worked in Trading Standards for over 30 years and was absolutely committed to protecting the public.

“The team is deeply saddened by this and our thoughts are with his family.”

A 38-year-old man arrested on suspicion of causing death by dangerous driving has been released on police bail until June 30.

Officers are continuing to investigate the crash and are appealing for anyone who witnessed it or who has dashcam footage to contact them on 101, quoting incident 137 of March 9.
