A Lincolnshire county councillor has defected to the Conservatives from UKIP just over one month before voters go to the polls.

Councillor Daniel McNally has represented Louth Marsh on the council since 2013.

He has been selected to stand for the Conservatives in the newly created Saltfleet & Coates county division in the elections on May 4.

Councillor McNally will also join the Conservative group on East Lindsey District Council.

Lincolnshire County Council leader Martin Hill said: “I am delighted to welcome county councillor Dan Mcnally to Lincolnshire Conservatives from UKIP as part of our team.

“He has contributed positively to the council since being elected in 2013 and is currently vice chairman of the planning committee. He is also a strong advocate for his area.

“Now that Brexit is happening, he believes that the Conservatives under Theresa May offer the best opportunity for the county and country.”
