Grimsby Town have appointed Russell Slade as their new manager, with the 56-year-old returning to Blundell Park for a second spell as Mariners’ boss.

Slade, who managed Grimsby from 2004 to 2006, was named as the new manager at a press conference on Wednesday, April 12.

His previous spell saw him lead Grimsby to the League Two playoff final in May 2006, before losing to Cheltenham Town 1-0.

Slade replaces Marcus Bignot, whose sacking earlier this week caused much discussion and confusion amongst fans.

This is Slade’s third managerial position in the current season, having already been the manager of Charlton Athletic between June and November last year.

He also was in charge of Coventry City for 11 weeks from December 2016 to March 2017 in which he won three games in 16 matches.

The vastly experienced manager has been in charge of the likes of Cardiff, Scarborough, Sheffield United, Notts County, Leyton Orient and Brighton during his career.

He has five games left in charge of the club this season.

Grimsby currently lie 14th in League Two, seven points of the playoffs.

The Mariners play Cambridge United at home on Friday, April 14.
