Three lucky winners have been picked for a flight on a newly announced star of the 2017 Scampton Air Show, a 74-year-old Catalina G-PBYA flying boat.

The competition, run by airshow organisers in partnership with The Lincolnite, saw aviation enthusiasts line up for the chance to fly from Duxford airfield.

The winners, announced on Friday, April 21, will all be treated to a 10 minute flight above the Cambridgeshire countryside with a guest of their choice, aboard the iconic Catalina flying boat.

Winners, Andrew Geldart, Nicky Hodgson and Melvin Copeland, were contacted on Wednesday morning with the news.

Andrew said: “I’m thrilled to win the flight in the Catalina, now I just have to decide who to take with me!

“As my wife used to have a pullout of “Killer Cat” (the Catalina Society’s previous aircraft) on her bedroom wall, I think she could be in with a chance!”

The magnificent machine will also feature in the flying display at Scampton Airshow in September along with a host of other headliners.
