A red-faced Conservative county councillor was stunned into total silence when her partner and outgoing council chairman proposed to her in front of all her colleagues.
Councillor Rosemary Woolley was left shocked and embarrassed when partner Martin Trollope-Bellew casually popped the question after finishing his talk about financial pressures the council is facing.
A painful 30 seconds which must have seemed like a lifetime passed by before Councillor Woolley rather sheepishly answered: “Of course I will.”
“Finally I’ve got one last question for a member of this council. Councillor Miss Rosemary Woolley, will you marry me?”
The question prompted significant spontaneous applause from fellow councillors as Councillor Woolley looked on shocked.
Seconds later a colleague asked: “Are you going to say something?”
An anxious-looking Councillor Woolley stood up and said: “Um, can I think about it?”
After yet another pause, she finally agreed, with ‘Trolley’ as he is known to friends and colleagues going over to give his new fiancée a hug.

The spiritual movement was founded in the 1930s by Dada Lekhraj Kripalani, a visionary Indian businessman, also known by the name of Prajapita Brahma Baba. He then passed it over to a trust administered by a group of women who have run it ever since. After experiencing a series of visions in 1936, he was inspired to create a school where the “principles and practices of a virtuous and meditative life could be taught.”
