Developers have submitted proposals to turn the former Lincoln Liberal Club on St Swithins Square into student rooms and retail units.

The application for the site seeks a change of the use for the whole of the former club building. It also asks for permission for a ground floor rear extension, behind the Witch and Wardrobe pub.

It consists of seven residential flats totalling 57 student rooms and extensions to accommodate five retail units at basement level.

Developers Philip Bingham Associates say they aim to “retain the current character of the building”.

Plans were submitted in 2015 for a similar proposal consisting of 40 student bedrooms.

The building sits opposite St Swithin’s Church on the square.

New proposals will go before the City of Lincoln Council’s planning committee at a later date.
